ÂNGELA FERREIRA
Curator/ Artistic Director (SOLAR Foto Festival, Portugal)
Ângela Ferreira is an artist, curator and researcher based between Portugal and Brazil, with a PhD in Visual Communication on photo-painting and self-representation of indigenous nations. She holds a degree in Curatorial Studies and completed a Masters in Photography at the Utrecht School of Arts-Holland. She holds a Postdoctoral degree at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, developing studies on contemporary visual practices that problematize the hybrid forms of Photography and photobooks.
For the past decade, Ângela has curated contemporary photography exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and various Latin American countries, with a particular focus on Brazil. She co-founded the Festival Encontros da Imagem in Braga, where she served as both general and artistic director ( 2013-2016). She is affiliated with the Oracle World Photography Association and sits on the curatorial board of the Photography Museum of Fortaleza, Brazil.
Ângela coordinated the Photopoetics Strategic Plan at Porto Iracema das Artes and has been part of the General Coordination Team of the Fotofestival SOLAR in Fortaleza since 2018, where she serves as artistic director. She teaches at the University of Minho Portugal and the Lusófona University of Lisbon, with a focus on photobooks, and is a co-founder of the Nervo_Observatório de Fotolivros Portugueses. Ângela divides her time between Portugal and Brazil, exploring narrative transversality through photobooks and photography.
