We’re thrilled to update you on the career of Adam Rouhana, whose project "Before Freedom" was exhibited as a Belfast Photo Festival Open Submission 2024 winner. Adam is a photographer whose work and subject matter deserve visibility and recognition on the global stage.

Adam’s work embodies our belief and a reminder of how photography and imagery remains a powerful tool to communicate, inspire and impact diverse audiences. We’re proud to have displayed his work both in Belfast and online to our international audiences, securing a feature in The Guardian.

In May 2024, Adam’s first solo exhibition, Before Freedom, debuted at Frieze No.9 Cork Street in London, gaining widespread acclaim. He followed this up with another powerful show in June 2024 at TJ Boulting Gallery titled "Before Freedom Pt. 2: The Revolution Cannot Be Built On Dreams Alone", showcasing his evolving body of work and solidifying his place in the global art scene.

Since his award, Adam’s work has been featured in top-tier publications such as The New York Times, Aperture, and Dazed Magazine. His photography, which captures the nuanced stories of Palestinian communities, has resonated deeply with both media outlets and audiences worldwide.

More recently, Adam's work has been included in Nowness, VICE Photo Issue, and AD Middle East. If you would like to hear more about Adam's work be sure to tune into his upcoming Nicer Tuesday talk for It’s Nice That and symposium at V&A South Kensington. 'Landed Histories: Ecology, Power and Politics in Digital and Lens-based Practices' will bring together artists, academics and researchers to address the critical potential of digital and lens-based practices.
