TIME EXPOSED – SEASCAPES
Hiroshi Sugimoto
Dates: 4 - 11 December 24
Times: 10.30am - 4.30pm
Location: Botanic Gardens
Hiroshi Sugimoto is a Japanese photographer and architect whose practice is chiefly concerned with the passage of time. Challenging the belief that the camera makes visible reality, his multi-disciplinary work invites the viewer to contemplate themes such as history and memory. For over four decades he has travelled across the world documenting seas and oceans, to explore the relationship between nature and human consciousness.
"From there my thoughts race to the origins of human consciousness itself. The sea reminds me that within my blood remain traces of human evolution over hundreds of thousands of years." – Hiroshi Sugimoto
From the 4-11 December, Belfast Photo Festival, in collaboration with Jude Quinn, will present an exhibition of seascapes from his Time Exposed portfolio, by the Tropical Ravine in the spectacular surroundings of Botanic Gardens. Twelve works will be on view, including abstract depictions of the Irish Sea, Cliffs of Moher and the English Channel. Open daily from 10.30 am - 4.30 pm, don’t miss this opportunity to experience Sugimoto’s profound exploration of the sea and its connection to our shared history.
