PHOTOGRAPHY IN ANIMATION
Digital and CGI has revolutionized photography, art and animation – from the 250 billion pixels in any animated feature each being the same core element used in any digital photography, to Disney Pixar's innovative 'virtual cameras' recreating the language of photography in digital CGI. Our speakers focus this discussion on collaboration across the disciplines of photography, art and animation and the new opportunities for photographers and artists within it.
Torbin Bullock (Editor - Pixar animation studios)
Torbin began at Pixar in 1995, where he started on 'Toy Story' as an assistant editor in Editorials 35mm Film Conform room. Since then he has worked on the majority of Pixar features and a host of shorts from the position of Assistant Editor all the way through to Supervising Editor. This involves mechanically and creatively "making the movie feel like a movie" through the combination of editing storyboards, dialogue, sound effects, music, layout, animation and final footage.
Ruth Ducker (Director - Brown Bag Films)
Ruth is currently a Series Director at Brown Bag Films, working on a new pre-school title for Universal Kids. She has over 17 years experience in the animation industry having worked on shows for Disney Junior, CBeebies and Sprout, as well as having worked as an animator and layout artist on both BAFTA and Academy Award winning shows. Before her career in TV she worked spent 10 years as a Fine Artist and Illustrator, which has informed her understanding of composition and lighting as an integral part of storytelling.
COLIN WILLIAMS (CREATIVE dIRECTOR - SIXTEENSOUTH)
Colin Williams is Founder and Creative Director of Sixteen South Studios. He spent his early career in advertising followed by seven years running Inferno, his award-winning commercial production house. With a passion for storytelling, Colin founded Sixteen South in 2007 to create and produce quality television for children everywhere and his shows can be seen on networks across the globe. In the last ten years, Colin has gained an international reputation for top quality work and exceptional storytelling, and has already created and produced over 400 episodes of award winning children’s television for broadcasters around the world.
Colin’s work has notched up 30 international awards including British Animation Award, Prix Jeunesse, IFTA, HUGOs, BAFTAs (most recently - Best Independent Production Company 2016) and an EMMY® nomination.
